Event Details

Join Dark Tours at the Morpeth School of Arts for an interactive ghost tour. Morpeth School of Arts dates from 1862, with its Greek style pillars supporting the architrave and pediment. The foundation stone was laid by Mr Close. A jar containing coins, copies of the local paper, rules of the institution and the names of contractors had been laid beneath it. Morpeth School of Arts had been used as a library, reading room, hall and stage for cultural activities. The Morpeth Council formed in 1865, met here for the first time in 1866 and continued to use the building until 1944. The town of Morpeth was devastated by flood in 1875 and again on March 13th 1893, where the flood was recorded at being 11 feet higher than the flood in 1875. A letter forwarded to Reverend Child from Reverend Goddard stated that East and West Maitland, Morpeth and Hinton were in a frightful state with houses washed away, there being typhoid patients within Hinton School of Arts and the railway was destroyed in every direction. Join in and use a wide range of interactive devices and try to connect with the past. This tour is suitable for those aged 13 years or older when accompanied by an adult.
